Transitioning a Caregiver or Parental/Adoption Leave

Transitioning a Caregiver or Parental/Adoption Leave

Beginning January 1, 2026, any Company-paid Caregiver or Parental/Adoption Leave, regardless of the start date, will be managed by The Hartford.

Your Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave that runs concurrently with a Caregiver or Parental/Adoption Leave will also be managed by The Hartford, beginning January 1, 2026.

If your leave is already approved, no additional action is needed.

If your leave is pending or requires an extension, you will work directly with The Hartford using the contact information above. The Hartford’s portal and phone line will open for employees on January 1, 2026.

The state you work in may also provide leave benefits. Depending on the state, you may work with Sun Life or the state directly.

  • If you work in Massachusetts, Hawaii, New York, or Oregon, Sun Life will continue to manage your state-paid caregiver and parental leave benefits for leaves that began in 2025. These benefits will continue to be paid out through Sun Life and the Company will reduce your pay by what you receive from Sun Life for your state benefits. If you need to extend your state paid leave benefits, you will continue to work with Sun Life.
  • If you work in California, Connecticut, Colorado, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Washington, or Washington D.C., the state will continue to manage your state-paid caregiver and parental leave benefits for leaves that began in 2025. You will continue to work with the state to approve or extend your state-paid leave benefits and receive payment directly from the state. Any state benefits you are eligible for will reduce your Caregiver or Parental/Adoption Leave pay. Refer to this State Contact Directory for information about how to contact the state in which you work.
  • If you work in New Jersey, your Temporary Family Insurance (TDI) and Family Leave Insurance (FLI) will be handled separately:
    • Sun Life will continue to manage your TDI for leaves beginning December 31, 2025, or earlier
    • The state will continue to manage your FLA for leaves beginning December 31, 2025, or earlier
    • For leaves beginning January 1, 2026, or later, any NJ TDI and FLI benefits will be administered by The Hartford
  • If you work in a state not listed here, the state does not currently provide leave benefits.  You will continue to work with Sun Life for STD leave and The Hartford for FMLA and ADA leave, as appropriate.

Returning to Work

When you’re ready to return to work, notify your manager, The Hartford, and Sun Life, if Sun Life is administering your state benefits.
